When Tru Carr pulled up for his Rude Girl Radio interview, the room was already electric. The Watts native has been grinding non-stop, and you could feel that energy in every word. From talking about his early influences to breaking down his viral hit “Ghetto,” TruCarr reminded us why he’s not just an artist—you feel him.
Where He’s From? It’s Complicated
When asked about his roots, Tru Carr laughed and gave us the real: “The internet be lying.” Born in Watts, Tru Carr’s story spans across California—from L.A. to the Inland Empire—and even touches the South, with ties in Texas and Louisiana. That broad cultural imprint is part of why everyone rocks with him. “If we really wanna be technical, I’m from all of them.”
Though currently based in Las Vegas, TruCarr is quick to remind you—he’s always close to home, no matter where he lives.
The Meaning Behind “Tru Carr”
His stage name? It’s no gimmick. “Carr” is his actual last name. “I wanted to tell the truth. I couldn’t put ‘Real Carr’ or ‘Authentic Carr,’” he joked. “So I went through the thesaurus and landed on Tru Carr.” Simple, raw, and fitting for an artist who wears his heart and hustle on his sleeve.
Influences: From Chief Keef to the Classics
His influences are just as wide-ranging as his story—Lil Wayne, YG, Chief Keef, and more. But don’t let that list fool you. “I don’t know how I ended up with this style I got,” he admits. His sound is uniquely his own—a mash-up of raw West Coast energy, authentic storytelling, and unfiltered vibes.
The Breakout: “Outside” Featuring Blueface
Tru Carr first caught major attention with his single “Outside” featuring Blueface—a track born during the pandemic when everyone was stuck inside. “We grew up in the cold… we were still outside doing whatever,” he said. That real-life feeling turned into a street anthem.
And while Blueface brought his signature off-beat delivery to the track, Tru Carr brought the substance and swagger that made the streets pay attention.
“Ghetto”: A Viral Movement
His latest banger “Ghetto” is more than a song—it’s a whole campaign. The story behind it? Pure hustle. After meeting E.K.E. at a video shoot for another track, Tru Carr kept seeing him around. Eventually, he invited him to record a TikTok-style video at a club appearance. “I told him, ‘You rap? Send me some songs.’” One of those songs was “Ghetto.”
After recording his verse and hitting the road, TruCarr came back and personally pressed play at clubs and shows. The reaction was immediate. He brought the record to the people, from No Jumper to 99.1 radio. Then came the TikTok challenge—$500 to the best dancer. Hundreds participated, the video spread, and the labels came knocking.
But Tru Carr’s motivation goes deeper than just numbers.
The Real Motivation: Legacy
Tru Carr opened up about losing a close family member—his daughter Journey. “I had to be the one to lean on,” he said. “That’s what keeps me going… She’s up top, making sure I stay on what I’m on.”
That loss didn’t break him—it became the foundation of his mission. “She’s the reason I’m pushing. I gotta go crazy in her name.”
What’s Next: True Pen
Tru Carr isn’t letting up. His next tape, True Pen, is set to drop soon and it’s stacked with features: Major 9, Real Young OG, K-Shot A, K-Carbon, Chef G, and more. “We’ve been putting on the True Pen so much… it’s only right,” he said.
From city to city, set to set, TruCarr is staying outside—and staying true.
